Holy cow, I'm doing this of my own free will

Thu Nov 12, 2009, 11:58 PM
So if you've bothered reading all of my journals, you'll know that I tend to ignore these 'meme' things like the plague, and usually only bother with them if the whole of the internet has bored me, and especially after discovering TV Tropes, that hasn't happened in a while. Well, I guess my attitude towards them has started changing. I saw 13thSpiral did this thing based on some original characters of hers, and despite the fact she didn't tag me (possibly because she knows I hate these things) I thought I might go ahead and do this. I've got a good amount of characters (granted, a lot of the names aren't final, but whatever), so I thought this might be a bit fun. Here we go...

1) First list all your OC’s by first name so we can see your list of all your wonderful OC’s.

1) Elliot
2) Mitch
3) Tunás
4) Luciera
5) Edge
6) Riley
7) Vion
8) Jii
9) Derek
10) Nemo
11) Leo
12) Eva
13) Dee
14) Eddie
15) Morrisson
16) Tyrric
17) Dymar
Probably more I'm forgetting about right now...I've got way too much swimming in my head to remember all of them and their supporting casts right now...

2) Who is your favorite OC?

Elliot, just because he's the first one I created and is therefore the most fleshed-out of all of them. Being largely based on my own personality and experiences didn't hurt much either...

3) Who is your least favorite?

Least favorite? Very hard to say. At the moment, Mitch is both rather bland and has a stupid name for the setting he's in, so I'd probably have to go with him...although Luciera's name isn't all that much better...*is bad at coming up with names*

4) Who is your most developed?

Again, Elliot. His story started with an event that occurred in my life, only translated into a fantasy world, but then grew into something so much more that it barely resembles what I initially imagined, and as the story transformed, Elliot became so much more interesting...

5) Which OC would you want to date if they magically came to life?

I suppose I would be stuck with Luciera, since the only other girl up there is Eva, and since she's 13 I'd say she's just a tad out-of-bounds...

6) How many girl OCs do you have? Boy OCs? It OCs?

Luciera and Eva are the only girls. All the rest are men, although I suppose you could call Jii an 'it' if you wanted to...

*Edit* I'm such an idiot. Dee and Morrisson are both girls as well, Dee being Morri and Eddie's mom.

7) If you were stuck in a burning building what do you think the third OC on your list would do?

Tunás? He would probably start laughing wildly as he throws himself out of the window of whatever floor he's on and begins manipulating the wind to save him from a horrible death at the last second. He's a magician, he can do these things.

8) Name one thing you regret about one of your OCs.

I'm so mean to all of them, can't I just regret treating them all like crap in the name of character development? I think I'll regret that...

9) Which of your OCs do you think would make the best father/mother/it parent out of all your OCs and why??

Well, Riley has had experience as a father, and he did it well in his own special way, but he's got some special circumstances that makes it hard for him to be a truly 'good' dad. I'd have to say that Luciera would make the best parent. She's calm, gentle, and loving, but also very protective, and has the means to protect that which is important to her.

10) Which of your OCs do you think will most likely be put in jail?

If not Vion then Edge...although Elliot does get thrown into an enemy prison at least once, but this is the enemy we're talking about here, so they hardly count.

11) The eighth of your OCs was put into the future! What will their job be?!?

Jii got sent to the future? Well, even in the future it would probably be difficult for the spirit of the last of an alien race to find a decent living except as either a feature in a haunted house or a super-spy, and he'd probably be more inclined towards the latter, although he would probably do as his people did in life and sit back and observe, only interfering when something really earth/universe shattering is about to happen.

12) Name the first OCs catch phrase! (if they don’t have one just make one up)

Sorry, I started zoning out. Could you start from the beginning?

13) Do all your OCs live together or are they separated?

Some live/work together, but the various groups live in either separate parts of the world/universe or in a different time period from each other...besides maybe Dymar. he's more like a joke character, and his existence in the same universe as the rest of theirs would probably break space/time. Jii would not be happy with this.

14) Are there any pairings that are in your OC list? (they can’t be with someone else's)

Leo/Eva.

15) Your seventh OC switched bodies with you for a day! How will they react at the end of the day?

If Vion switched bodies with me for a day, any of my jerky co-workers would probably be dead...Vion isn't one to put up with anything less than the most respectful people, and with me working at the bottom of the food chain right now, pretty much everybody tells me what to do...

If I were in Vion's shoes though, I'd most definitely have a lot of fun. I mean, I'd be a cyber-ninja. How could you not have fun?

16) Your last OC just became a fifteen year old. What do they do?

Reach right through the fourth wall and demand I change him back to...however old he is right now...

17) Now randomly select a person on your OC list. Who was it?
Edge

18) That OC you just chose? Yeah they think they are superman (even if they are a girl) and are on the roof about to jump off.

Oh dearie me...I'm sure he'd realize somewhere during his fall that he isn't able to fly, and would come up with a totally wild way of saving himself. He's very good at coming up with impromptu plans that save his neck in the wildest of ways.

19) Are any of your OCs bored of this meme?

Eddie really wants to get up and do something right now. Holding still just isn't his style.

20) Would your second OC prefer the beach or the mountains?

Considering the only beach he has access to is across ~100 miles of uninhabited land, and he lives in a kind of valley surrounded by mountains, I'd say he's pretty cool with where he is. If he had to choose though, he'd probably go with the mountains, just because it's more adventurous.

21) Would your tenth OC battle a shark?

Nemo!? How on earth did a character named NEMO get the shark question!?

And no, Nemo would not battle the shark. Until partway through the story he is in, he's just a street urchin. A child street urchin at that. He does absolutely no fighting throughout the story, and instead learns how to pilot aircraft from his adoptive father. THAT'S RIGHT. YOUNG ALADIN HERE FLIES THE TEAM JET.

22) Which OCs hate each other?

The first eight all hate Tyrric, although he strangely enough doesn't seem to return the favor...

23) Which OC did you create first? And last?

Like I said, Elliot was my very first, and Dymar was a joke character I made just about a week or two ago...

25) And if those two were fighting, who would win?

Probably Elliot, just because Dymar's sole advantage in a fight is that the plot mandates that he must win. If there were a random tale of Elliot and Dymar meeting, and neither was made to look as a hero or villain, Elliot's skills would far outclass anything Dymar has going for him.

26) Are your OCs fat or skinny?

For the most part they're pretty fit, although Derek could stand to lose a few pounds.

27) What are your first 2 OC's favorite foods?

They both love a good burrito. And I mean LOVE.

28) If your listed OCs were in a fight to the death, who would emerge victorious?

Riley. For several very good reasons that I can't explain here.

29) There's a zombie attack and your OCs are stranded. Who do they elect to be their leader?

Oh geez. Tyrric would probably gun for that spot real hard, but in the end it would either go to Elliot or Riley, both of them having outstanding leadership qualities in their own ways.

30) During said zombie attack, who's the first to die?

Bye Nemo.

31) Tag three or more people!

If you bothered to read this and want to do it, go for it! I don't know if tagging would be worthwhile, given the way most of the people watching me haven't logged in for weeks...

So hi again everybody! It's-a-me! So recently I was doin' crazy stuff on my computer, just minding my own business, when out of the blue :icon13thspiral: exploded onto my Windows Live Messenger screen and was all "YOU! I'M DOIN' A CHARACTER TOURNY! I'M USIN' FLASH! BE MY GOATMAN!", to which I responded with "I am no goatman." and she was all like "I mean voice him you big stupidhead."

Which I was totally cool with.

So she officially entered :iconriseoct: with her audition thingy and made it in. Like I said, I play her purple goatman, Stylx, who sounds far less impressive in the audition than everybody else because I was an idiot and used my laptop's internal microphone instead of an external one I could hold up to my face. All this changed for her entry into the first round against :iconsomeguy0203: and :iconlimeindacoconut:, who are some pretty cool kids and fully deserved the win that they got. HIGH FIVES TO ALL OF YA!

Just because we lost doesn't mean we're out though, since it's double elimination. We're up against :iconchocohaulic: this time, and his awesome character White Liquid, which has led to some real interesting ideas on how to play out the fight. 13thSpiral showed me the script and it's REALLY cool. I wish the best of luck to our opponent, but at the same time hope he doesn't take it personally that we're putting our everything into this. White Liquid is a character with some kick-awesome dynamics, and we're trying to put those on full display, since if we win it'll be his swan-song. Alas, such is the way in the lower bracket...

So for those of you who have been watching me, this is what's been up lately (besides college and work, but you don't really want to hear about those, do you?). If you're stopping by because you saw my name on some of 13thSpiral's stuff for RISE, welcome! I rarely update anything over here (in fact this journal entry was mostly just a way for me to have something posted more recent than February...-_-), but I hope you enjoy looking through it anyway.

Auf wiedersehen!

Dear sweet Mother!

Tue Feb 17, 2009, 10:04 AM
In case anyone out there didn't know, the Mother 3 fan-translation is out now at mother3.fobby.net! Mother 3 is the sequel to Earthbound (Mother 2 in Japan), which was an excellent game in which a young boy discovered that he had psychic powers and was chosen to save the world from an evil alien. The games in the series are linked, however they aren't so strongly tied together that you need to have played the first two for this one to make sense.

If you've played Earthbound, statistics show that you probably liked it, and Mother 3 has everything that made Earthbound great and gives it a story that makes grown men cry, which is not a bad thing.

If you've never played Earthbound and have called it out on its turn-based battle system every time somebody suggests that you do so, Mother 3 may still be the game for you. It does still have turn-based combat, but it features a unique combo system where if you tap the A button along with the rhythm of the music in the background while attacking, you can rack up combos, which gives a sense of interactivity to what most other turn-based RPGs leave at "You said to attack, so I will." My brother has tried some Final Fantasy, and even Mario & Luigi Superstar Saga, and eventually put them down because of the tedious battles, but he can't get enough of this game, and is always trying to steal my computer from me so that he can play it. He says it's just that good.

I'm actually in the middle of Mother 1 right now (AKA Earthhbound Zero, for the NES), and am enjoying myself immensely. Shigisato Itoi, the creator of the Mother series, is a genius, and has given me the first NES game I've played where the difficulty feels worth it. I just can't get enough of this series, and am going to be quite sad when I've finished Mother 1, the third and final of my trips into this wonderful parody of American Suburbia.

If you're curious at all about the series, go ahead and ask me in the comments, or just check out www.starmen.net. It is a wonderful site with one of the most dedicated communities I've seen in a long time.

In the meantime, Tonda Gossa everybody. I've got a trip to Magicant to plan!

Go die in a couch fire, Garland.

Tue Jul 8, 2008, 10:10 PM

Anyway, this trailer made me do the unthinkable: actually want a PSP. Unfortunately, it also did something else: GIVE GARLAND MY WEAPON. In my last journal entry, I mentioned a Chainblade that the main character in my story was going to wield. Well looky here, Square Enix decided to read my journal and give that weapon (on a much larger scale) to Garland. He should go die now. This means that if/when I make this story into a game (which is what I wanted it to be in the first place, but baby steps are necessary), people will say "Oh, I've seen that before", or "oh, that's like that Garland guy's sword. I bet he got the idea from there."

No.

I actually got the idea from the least likely source imaginable. A BB revolver we found in the trunk of a used car my dad got. To reload it, you pull a lever that releases the barrel end of the gun, which pivots down to let you put more shots in, but the hinge was broken, so the barrel just fell off. That got me thinking "What if that happened while reloading a gunblade? Well, there wouldn't be anything to worry about if the blade were on a chain...which could be whipped around...and would be awesome."

Of course, Elliot's chainblade is guaranteed to be much more...versatile...

I'm bored.

Wed May 28, 2008, 10:52 PM
So I'm really bored, and looking back, I've been 'tagged' by two people three times...I'm normally the kind of person who can't stand things like this, but it's 11:10PM, I don't want to go to bed, and the internet is starting to tire me, so here I go.

Odyssey1319 got me so that I need to state six abnormal things about myself. A piece of cake.

1) I was born with a giant hole in my diaphragm which my intestines decided to crawl through, trying to strangle me from my inside. As a result only 1/3 of my left lung works and I have a scar running all the way under my left ribcage.

2) My dad is allergic to cats, but I love them. I always planned on getting a cat when I moved out of my parents' house, but fate would say NO! Just about a year and a half before graduating high school (which is later this month!), I was at a friend's place, playing with his cat, when I started getting itchy. And my eyes started watering. And I started sneezing uncontrollably. Now I can have no cat.

3) I admin two gaming forums and occasionally edit the Final Fantasy Wiki, yet I can never seem to find time to play games anymore...

4) However, I have completed Metroid Zero Mission upwards of twenty times. Four of them in one sit-down.

5) I am very much a nighttime person and hate getting up in the mornings...yet I voluntarily signed up for a class that starts an hour before school begins.

6) There was a period of time when a small hacker organization kept sending me messages, saying that I needed to help them find somebody. Despite a long and drawn-out process, almost everything turned out fine in the end. The only casualty was...my favorite website...however I've been doing a lot of thinking since that time, and have decided to make the best of my experience. My two occupations of choice are a video game designer or an author, and in either of those two jobs, I believe that I can adapt what happened to me to make an awesome game or book.

Which leads me to Chachungee's tag. I've got to have up to five of my characters answer some questions. Despite my boredom, I'm also lazy, so I choose one.

What’s your name?
-My name is Elliot.
How old are you?
-I’m 19 years old.
What's your height?
-I'd guess that I'm just shy of six feet...
Do you have any bad habits?
-I tend to judge places before I actually have a chance to see what they're like...of course, most of the time when I judge them I'm right about them, but that's beside the point. I guess.
Are you a virgin?
-Unlike the crowd I hang around with while I'm in the city, I have morals. Yes, I'm a virgin.
Who's your mate/spouse? (boyfriend/girlfriends)
-I've never had a girlfriend. I'm friendly with plenty of girls, I just haven't met anyone who sticks out particularly.
Do you have any kids?
-I sure hope not. That'd be a little weird.
What's your favorite food?
-Burgers...wait...maybe steak?...or pizza. I got it! A steak pizza burger!
Have you killed anyone?
-No. I really hope my life doesn't take a turn like that, although crazy things do happen to people.
Do you hate anyone?
-Hate? Not really. The guy who sort of 'heads' the group I hang around gets on my nerves sometimes, and one of the city Peacekeepers, Peirce, is drunk more often than not, so he's a pain too, but I wouldn't say I hate either of them.
Have any secrets?
-Well...my dad is one of the big-wigs in a cartography company. I try to keep that on the down-low though, since I don't know if people might treat me differently after knowing that...
Do you love anyone?
-Not at the moment. I'm open to the idea though.
What is your job?
-I'm a professional partier I guess you could say. I'd like to be a Peacekeeper someday. Whenever Peirce isn't drunk he's a shining example of what a good Peacekeeper should be, and I'd like to live up to that example all the time, rather than just when I feel like being sober.
What is your weapon of choice?
-Right now I only know how to fight with my fists, although I think I heard a friend of mine talking about something called a 'Chainblade' that he won somewhere. That sounds like it could be cool.
Boy or girl?
-I'm one of those manly types.
What do you do to relax?
-I ride down to the city and chill with whatever group members happen to be there.
What's the weirdest thing that happened to you?
-I have some strange dreams from time to time. Sometimes it feels like I'm walking around my house, totally out of my control, while other times everything is just black, and I hear this voice whispering to me. Either way, I always feel like crap the next morning.
Have you kissed anyone?
-Nobody except my parents.

Since, as I stated above, I absolutely loathe these 'tag' things, I will be committing the ultimate crime against them. I will not pass them on. Too bad, eh?
